Erik Bruhn and Rudolf Nureyev, 1963- Diane Arbus
At the height of his fame legendary ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev defected from the Soviet Union, despite KGB efforts to stop him. Shortly after arriving in the West he met celebrated Danish dancer Erik Bruhn. Nureyev had been a great admirer of Bruhn’s although stylistically as dancers they were very different. The two men fell in love and remained a volatile but passionate couple off and on for 25 years.
